Northeast Historic Film

Our Annual Meeting was held January 19 and our new officers were voted in as well as our budget. Numerous artifacts were on display, including small items found in the museum's cellar during the current digging and concrete pouring project. Incoming President Tim Lord presided and thanked outgoing President Ken Chester for all his hard work and dedication. Coffee and desserts were served. The program for the day was a showing of old films by Northeast Historic Film, a non-profit organization that collects and preserves old home movies and films depicting our way of life in northeast New England. Some of the films featured were photographed by Tim Lord's grandfather in the 1920's.

Building Improvement Campaign Update

We are nearing the finish line. Our long-awaited project designed to protect our artifacts by reducing moisture and humidity in the building is almost done. Mathewson & Co. worked through the winter preparing and pouring a concrete floor in our vast Museum basement. We will shortly be digging outside around the foundation to install a water barrier and proper drainage. Regrading and landscaping will finish the job. Our heartfelt thanks to all who provided the financial support to see this project through.

We're Still Making History in Hancock

Former State Senator Robert M. English chronicled the people and events of Hancock in our Annual Town Reports from 1950-1973. Now the HHS has published them as Plain English, Hancock Life: 1950-1973.

The book is dedicated to the memory of Joseph Grew English, the Senator's son, and a complimentary copy was given to each of our members.

For us, the journey was as important as the destination. We had a fabulous committee of dedicated volunteers working on the project. Their sense of comraderie and community spirit is exactly what makes the town of Hancock such a special place to live.

Without memory we have no foundation, no point of reference from which to learn and grow.
